Christmas is right around the corner and people the world over are looking to find ways to enjoy the festive season. But in whatever you do, remember that the key to a good Christmas is love. This is the time of year when we all draw close to one another (albeit with social distancing this year), and it's the opportunity to show others how much we love and care for them.
So, what can you do to show others you love and appreciate them? Here are some ideas.
#1: Buy meaningful gifts
It takes a little bit of effort to put thought into a gift, but it's more than worth it. Seeing the faces of the people you love as they open their presents can be a real treat, especially when you know their gifts really mean something to them. So, don't buy your loved ones a gift at last minute, with very little thought put into it. Consider each person in turn and buy them something they will truly love, as the gift they open will show that you truly love them.
#2: Be forgiving
Christmas can be a happy time, but there can be stresses too. There will undeniably be times when the people in your life do something that frustrates you but don't lash out at them or hold bitter resentments. Remember that nobody is perfect, not even yourself, and forgive when you need to, especially the little things.
#3: Be present
By which we mean 'be present,' and not 'be a present,' although if you can find ways to gift yourself to others, that can be a good thing too. But when we say 'be present,' we are reminding you not to shut yourself away from others. Yes, you will invariably need time alone during this most busy of seasons, but when you're in the company of people, don't remain glued to your smartphone, and don't keep one eye on the television when you're sitting next to another. Be there for the people in your life, bless them with your company and conversation, and let them know that they are more important to you than any of the devices in your home.
#4: Find ways to say 'I love you'
Write those magical three words when you're writing out your Christmas cards. Wear those words for your partner with one of these personalized Valentines shirts. Act out those words when you're doing kind things for others. And simply let those words flow from your lips when you're spending time with your loved ones. Christmas is a time to love, and there are all kinds of ways you can both say it and show it.
